You have to go home now. We need peace, law and order. We respect our people. We lost an election by a landslide.

The election was a fraud, but we can't enter into this situation by playing into the hands of these people. This is a very tough time.

On January 6, several people were killed and over 100 police officers were wounded during an armed insurrection in the Capitol.

Besides repeating the same lies about the election ("We had an election stolen from us") that spurred the insurrection, Trump said he loved them.

In a speech the next day, Trump expressed his support for the rioters even more explicitly.

Trump's speech was brief (under three minutes) and largely conciliatory. "We are at a moment of reconciliation and healing," he said.

Rather than raising questions about the elections, he would have praised the people who had taken over the Capitol the  previous night.

Trump, according to former Trump White House chief of staff Mark Meadows aide Cassidy Hutchinson, would have ordered the rioters to hang Pence.

I don't get it now. And he's very likely to be the Republican nominee for president in 2024.
